Soda fired Porcelain and Stoneware: glazes are applied on the interior of my work, but the exterior is decorated by the soda vapor during the firing.
Wood fired pieces came out of Nick Schwartz's Anagama at Flynn Creek Pottery in Comptche, CA, fired by Nick and a group of dedicated artists. Photography by Tom Liden
Wood/soda fired Mug
I had an oppotunity to participate in a wood firing this April. I took three 6 hour stoking shifts, but the firing went on for ten days and consumed nine cords of wood, with potters working around the clock. This mug was then re-fired in my soda kiln in May. The result is this beautiful subtle surface, combination of wood ash and soda vapor.

Wood fired Mug
This is straight from Nick's anagama, already rich in variety of sublte colors, dispite being refired in a soda firing.
